Faye Gleisser is assistant professor of Art History at Indiana University, and holds affiliations with the Cultural Studies and Critical Race and Postcolonial Studies certificate programs. Her research draws upon the intersection of 20th and 21st century art, performance studies, and critical race theory to interrogate contemporary art historiography and the social politics informing its dominant narratives. In addition to her scholarship, which has appeared in Artforum, Aperture, and the Journal of Visual Culture, and is forthcoming in Art Journal, she maintains an active curatorial practice, having recently organized exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Chicago and the Chicago Artists Coalition.

Faye is currently completing a book manuscript titled, “Guerrilla Tactics, Art, and the Cultural Domestication of Militancy in the U.S., 1967-1987,” which examines the relationship between performance artists’ deployment of guerrilla urban survival techniques, cultural expressions of militancy, and criminal code reform.
