Jennie Williams is a Ph.D. candidate studying ethnomusicology in the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology at Indiana University, Bloomington. She received her MA in ethnomusicology at IU in 2017, and her BA in American Studies at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) in 2014. Since 2016, Jennie has worked for the state's designated folk and traditional arts organization, Traditional Arts Indiana. In this role, she conducts state-wide fieldwork, administers the TAI Apprenticeship Program, and prepares exhibits and programs designed to support folk and traditional arts in Indiana. Previously, Jennie worked as an intern at both Maryland Traditions and Smithsonian Folkways. Her research examines how organizations recognize and promote music traditions, focusing specifically on the music making communities in southern Indiana. Jennie plays mandolin and guitar, a helpful skill set for her research.
